Puzzled!

The email 'Twas the Night Before the Big XII' was the email that Robert and Ginny sent me and others. I grew up on a farm in Southwest Oklahoma and all my early years of life I was an OSU fan. I still am but when I moved out of state most of the people from other places knew about Oklahoma because of its Oil and football tradition, namely OU. In self-defense I also became an OU fan. Scott, my son, graduated from OU. It is possible to be a fan of more than one Tradition.

What puzzles me is how fans from both traditions treat each other and others in this State. There is value to us who live in this place to support any school in the state that does well in whatever event or activity. It is overall a good thing for the whole state regardless of what school you attended. I was talking with a friend of mine this week who grew up in Texas. He said that he was not a Texas fan until he moved to Oklahoma, but the Oklahoma fans have just about convinced him to be a Texas Long Horn fan (that self-defense thing).

There is a higher road in life that we can always choose to take in whatever situation we find ourselves whether it is football or something else. My faith in Christ is always pushing me to take that "higher road." What about you? I hope that college football moves to a playoff system. I hope that tonight the best team wins. Enjoy the game. See you tomorrow in Worship.

Blogging Etiquette

I have been somewhat conflicted about my blogging since I started this new venture. Several people have posted comments to several of my postings. I want that!

I decided when I started this that it would be an “open” forum and that I would not moderate or screen the comments before they are posted.

The conflict with me has been whether or not to “comment” on the comments. I have the option of responding to the comments directly to the individuals who post a comment on my website by email or to post a comment on the website in response to the comments for all to see.

The problem I have is time. If I took the time to respond by email to all of the comments, I wouldn’t have time to post new articles or postings. So, from this point forward, I will post my responses to your comments on the website. That way everyone can see my thoughts regarding your opinions.

I won’t have time to respond to all the comments, but when I have something to say in response, I will post it in the comment section along with your comments. Let’s see how this works for awhile.

Resident Alien

How would you like to live with that title, "Resident Alien"? My new son-in-law has not even been that for the past several months. Stephanie did a “study abroad” program in Australia her junior year of College. They met and the rest is history so to speak. The wedding plan was for them to do a “destination wedding” in Belize in March. At least that was the plan until the US past a new immigration law and that changed everything. Paul was advised by his attorney not to leave the US or he might have a difficult time getting back in. So, as many of you know, we had the wedding here on Feb 23 and the next day Bev (my wife) and a host of other family and friends flew to Belize to joy Stephanie and Paul’s honeymoon. Paul has been waiting for the US to approve his permanent resident status and send him his new Permanent Resident Alien Card. HE GOT IT IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY!

He looks a bit sketchy in the picture doesn’t he? Trust me, he is a great guy and we are glad to have him in the family. He wasn't reared in the church so this church and Jesus stuff is somewhat new to him. God had a plan for him and HE will show him the way. I may help a little. Last night we took them out to celebrate!

He looks better here. A few years ago the now Alabama Bishop Will Willimon wrote a book called "Resident Aliens" and reminded us followers of Christ that we are in this world but our residency is in another kingdom! And, that we live in community or as he puts it a "colony." As Christ followers we are called to make a difference in this world. I am trying. How about you?
