Bible Study in Charleston, SC

Greetings New Covenant and friends! We are sitting in the Atlanta airport on Labor Day waiting to catch our flight back to OKC. Atlanta_airport_3
We have been in Charleston, SC all week. A few years ago I was invited to be apart of a study group of senior pastors who gather once each year to study a book of the bible. Last year we met in June in Wilmore, Kentucky and studied the gospel of John. I am using part of the material we put together for my current sermon series on John. We hire a seminary professor to lead the study and we all share in giving him an honorarium. This year we studied Thessalonians. It just so happened that last year we decided to do the study in Charleston. What a God incident!Study_group

The reason it is a God incident is Charleston is where Scott and Kali and Asher moved to this July. So, two blessings in one.Me_asher

Yesterday we attended Seacoast Church, which is a growing faith community that started a few years ago here in Charleston and now has several locations. It was a good service. They have several services on the main campus at the same time via video venue. They also have 3 locations in the Charleston area. We went to the main campus because we wanted to hear the head duck or big Kahuna. The service started and we worshipped. Then came time for the preaching and it was video venue. I was a little disappointed but it was still good. The thing that was different… they didn’t take up an offering. You leave your offering in a collection box as you leave the worship center. They also have kiosk’s in the lobby for electronic giving.Seacoast1Seacoast2

I heard that Shelley Johnson did a super job speaking at New Covenant. Well, what did you expect? She is a super person and a wonderful example of a Christ follower. I have got to sign off now and go to the gate. I hope we don’t have any delays! See you soon. I will write more when I get home.

Greensburg KS

While we were in Pawhuska this past Saturday we connected with an old friend from Topeka KS, Judy Walker. Judy use to live in Pawhuska and was involved in the early stages of Emmaus. While we were visiting she said that she had just spoken with Trudy Pope, a NC member, that morning and that Trudy's 92 year old aunt was living in Greensburg KS and was in the tornado. Tornado3_2When we finished visiting I called Trudy and she said that her aunt was OK and that she had many cousins in Greensburg. They were all OK but they have all lost everything. By now most of us have seen the pictures of the devastation in Greensburg. Please keep Trudy and her family in your prayers.
